There are many different types of childcare and we are here to help you decide which options are right for your family.
Nannies
Live-in nannies usually work 5-day week mon-fri doing approximately 10-12 hours per day with 2 evenings babysitting per week, excluding Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Any additional hours are usually arranged between the nanny and employer and paid either with time off or an hourly rate.
Live-in positions can either be sole charge where parents are both working or shared charge when a nanny works alongside the parent.
Live-out nannies work a 5-day week mon-fri doing approximately 10 hours per day and any extra babysitting is arranged between nanny and employer and again paid either with time off or an hourly rate. Live-out positions can again be either sole charge or share charged.
Duties
A nanny can be responsible for all the childcare needs, which include:
> Keeping all areas used by the children clean and tidy
>
Cooking healthy meals for the children
>
Washing and ironing their clothes
>
Help with their education/homework
>
Stimulating the children by taking them on outdoor activities, and quiet time in the house
Mothers help
Mothers help can again be live-in or live-out, they work a 5-day week mon-fri but their hours are not usually as long as that of a sole charge nanny. A usual working day may be starting between 8-9am and finishing between 5-6pm. They are generally not as qualified as a nanny or they need to gain more experience in childcare.
Temporary nannies live-in or out
You may feel you do not wish to have a full time nanny but just need help with school holidays/family holidays, or your current nanny is away on holiday/sick or you just require an extra pair of hands for a month, week(s) or day(s) - that is when a temporary nanny will come in useful. Temporary nannies are very flexible regarding hours and meeting your childcare needs and will carry out the same duties as a nanny.
